Q&A: Seo redirect module redirects all the time even if redirection is disabled

I have just installed the SEO redirect module and tried it on a product. I disabled the product and indeed it worked well - redirecting to the category page as I had set in the settings. however, when I re-enabled the product it wouldn't allow it to work - it still continued the redirect. Is this a bug? Obviously when a product is reactivated we require it to work as normal and not redirect

hello David,

there is a chance that your browser cached page of products with information that there is 301 redirection.

So, if "redirection" is saved in browser cache, then browser redirects you automatically even if you enabled the product in enabled your shop. Try to clear browser cache and you should be able to access to product page again.

let me explain why it works in that way.

301 redirects are supposed to be permanent, so it's actually not a bug that browser caches this kind of redirection (if 301 is permanent redirection there is no need to check page again).

For redirection that you want to create only for some time - it is better to define 302 redirection instead. Browser will not cache redirections then.

When to use 301?
Use this redirection type only if you want to permanently redirect one page to another. In the future you will not remove the redirection. It will be just permanent one.

When to use 302?
Use this redirection type if you want to create temporary redirection (in future you want to use different redirection, or not use it anymore)
