Hello

category description appears on category page by default,

the code that is responsible for category description is:

{if $category.description}

    <div id="category-description" class="text-muted">{$category.description nofilter}</div>

{/if}

and it is a part of file /themes/your-theme/templates/catalog/listing/category.tpl
